Is Higher Education Worth the Price?

Is Higher Education Worth the Price?

Yes. Depending on who you are. Higher education provides you with life skills, and creative problem-solving, and pushes you to expand your intellectual knowledge. You are sharpening a broad set of skills, which you will use to go further in your career.

Though, college does not equate to success. Alternatives are useful and should be looked at if one does not know what they want to do with a degree. Going straight into the job market, going to a vocational or trade school, or getting an online degree are all different pathways from the standard 4-year university and most importantly, they work. You can make a living without a degree, it is not a requirement. People try college, realize it is not for them, and carry on.

What are your personal goals career-wise? What do you wish to accomplish? Can you accomplish it without a college degree? Are you financially in good standing to be able to attend higher education in the first place?

According to pewresearch.org, only one-in-four U.S. adults say it is extremely important to have a four-year college degree to get a well-paying job. A third, or 35%, say it is somewhat important, while 40% say it's not too important or not at all.

Higher education is worth the price if you know what you're doing. If you want to change as a person and know things you didn't know before, it is worth it. However, if you do not know then you should wait. It will always be there. You can always go back and experience those four years, however, you cannot get that money back. Your passions can change, and your opinions can change. You at 25 is not the same as who you were at 18. It is not a bad idea to sit, wait, and truly think about the idea of having debt for a career you might not 100% be sure about. This choice affects you for the rest of your life, career, and financially.

54% of workers ages 25 to 24 do not have a four-year college degree. You can make a living without a degree. You can be successful without a degree. It is not a necessity.

It can be worth the price, but you have to be weary about why you are going and what you are getting out of the degree. Depending on the person, and the job prospects, higher education may not be worth the price.
